Project Description

Sherwood and Associates were initially engaged as Tourism and Business Planning consultants by Fingal County Council to prepare a plan for submission to Failte Ireland for the Redevelopment of Malahide Castle and Demesne into an Integrated Flagship Tourism Development capable of acting as a “Honey Pot Destination” for the County. Fingal County Council appointed an internal team of Architects, Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Engineers, and Heritage Specialists to work with S&A on preparing the plan for submission.

The application process was spilt into two parts

Phase 1

A Master Plan for the site was developed. This was presented to Failte Ireland, discussed and an approval ‘in principle’ was secured for the project by S&A from Failte Ireland with a grant sum of €3.75 million ring-fenced. This allowed the project team time to develop detailed plans with the security of knowing funding was in place for the project.

Phase 2

Involved the detailed planning of the development, the recruitment of specialist advisors, the securing of planning permission, matching finance and commercial partners; along with full grant approval from Failte Ireland. S&A project managed this phase. The project is currently on site and is due to be completed by June 2012. Phase III involves S&A being retained to act as Tourism & Business Advisors during this period.
