Connemara cultural hub

A new cultural hub in Galway County

Sherwood & Associates were engaged by Udaras na Gaeltachta to assist with the development of an new cultural hub in Connemara based around the summer residence of Patrick Pearse.

Pearse Cottage is located in Ros Muc, on the West Galway coast in Connemara. Patrick Pearse, a leader of the 1916 Rising, spent his summers here from 1909 to 1915. The cottage itself is a designated National Monument and located within a Gaeltacht region in an area designated as an ‘Area of High Scenic Amenity’.

Within the planned developed Údarás na Gaeltachta now propose to expand the visitor offer on the site through the development of two new buildings housing exhibition space, education rooms, library/archive, AV room, cafe.  The Development aims to become a hub for celebrating Irish as a contemporary living language and the Gaeltacht culture while highlighting the Connemara region’s outstanding natural beauty. It will also provide expanded interpretation about Patrick Pearse.

Sherwood & Associates have been involved in all aspects of developing this integrated plan.
